Diplomi, mantelli e variopinte croci: ordini fasulli e millantatori

Côte d’Ivoire – Why is police intelligence holding opposition media executive?
Reporters Without Borders calls on the interior ministry to immediately account for media executive Ousmane Sy Savané's arrest yesterday by the Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DST), a police intelligence agency. Savané is director general of Cyclone, a company that publishes the opposition dailies Le Temps and LG Info. “If the DST, an interior ministry offshoot, is holding Savané then it should acknowledge this and should publicly say what he is accused of. Was he arrested for a (...)
Russia – Independent regional TV station hounded, might have to close
Reporters Without Borders condemns a six-week-old campaign of harassment of Puls TV, an independent television station based in the southwestern city of Azov, which could force it to close for good. “We are very worried for Puls TV's future and we fear it could set a precedent that endangers the freedom of independent media in this region,” Reporters Without Borders said. “This case is typical of the methods used in many regions to silence media that stray from the official line. We call for (...)
Burma – Government censors issue warnings to two opposition party newspapers
Information minister Kyaw Hsan promised more media freedom during a conference last week in Rangoon, but the Burmese authorities continue to keep the media on a short leash and still try to intimidate media they regard as too outspoken. Reporters Without Borders and its partner organization, the Burma Media Association, condemn the warnings that have been issued by the Press Scrutiny and Registration Division (PSRD), the government's media oversight agency, in response to published content (...)
Grenada – Government blamed for newspaper reporter’s dismissal
There are strong grounds for suspecting that the privately-owned Grenada Advocate weekly's dismissal of reporter Rawle Titus on 23 March was the result of direct political pressure by Prime Minister Tillman Thomas (photo) and his press secretary. Reporters Without Borders calls on the government to provide a frank explanation of a matter liable to endanger media independence. “We understand the alarm expressed by the Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG) ever since the Grenada Advocate (...)
Azerbaijan – Two-month detention order for two journalists arrested in northern town
Reporters Without Borders condemns the two-month pre-trial detention order that a court in the Baku district of Nasimi issued on 22 March for two of the four journalists arrested in the northern town of Quba on 13 March over a YouTube video that triggered major protests and clashes with the police in Quba (see below). The two journalists – Vugar Gonagov, the executive director of Khayal TV, and Zaur Guliyev, the station's editor in chief – are facing up to three years in prison on charges of (...)
