Reporters Without Borders condemns the Iranian government’s targeting of the BBC’s Farsi-language TV station, BBC Persian. Its satellite signal was jammed on 16 September when it broadcast a documentary about the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Reporters Without Borders condemns the increase in repression in recent weeks in Iran. One of the latest victims is the blogger Kouhyar Goudarzi, who has been detained since 1 August, the day that Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, arrived in Tehran to begin a fact-finding visit. Iran – Government develops “National Internet” to combat international Internet’s impact

Iran – Plight of seven detained netizens still worrying one year after their arrest
Exactly one year after seven young netizens were arrested in a series of raids by intelligence ministry agents, Reporters Without Borders is reiterating the call for their release that it made in a letter on 23 February to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay and Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli Larijani, the head of the Iranian judiciary. Iran – Leading journalist released but banned from working
Reporters Without Borders hails leading human rights activist and journalist Emadoldin Baghi’s release on 21 June but deplores the fact that he is banned from any kind of political or journalistic activity for the next four years. He was originally given a six-year prison sentence but it was reduced to one year last July. 17.06.2011 – Release, jail sentence and closure Reporters Without Borders has learned that Reza Rafiee Foroshani, a freelance journalist who worked for Iranian and international news media, was released on 12 June. Arrested on 26 June 2009 in Tehran, he was included in one of the Stalinist-style mass trials held in Tehran in August 2009 and was given a seven-year jail sentence, plus a five-year suspended sentence, on a spying charge. The jail sentence was reduced to three years last year. (…)

Iran – Iranian authorities “responsible for journalist’s death”
Reporters Without Borders today deplored the death in prison of journalist and writer Hoda Saber and accused the Iranian regime of being responsible He was taken to hospital with chest pains on 10 June and died of a heart attack a few hours later.
